4 Tips to get genuine buzz

Here’s what it takes to get people talking about your program or product, “buzz” as some call it, “passing it on” as others say.

People talking who are not being paid for it. Four characteristics:

1. It must be remarkable (Godin’s Purple Cow). Very good is NOT enough. Too much is already very good so’s not worth remarking on to one’s friends, or writing about in one’s blog.

2. Must eliminate a scarcity mentality see here (e.g. there’s only enough for a few people so I won’t pass this on to anyone but my two best friends)

3. Must feel authentic.

4. Bonus points: Has the feel of news. (That’s not “This is the one! Hot new greatest deal – next Google!!!”) –Thanks for the inspiration, Gord Hotchkiss.

Anything else that makes you want to tell someone else about something you just found out about? I’m talking old fashioned word of mouth that is not contaminated by any payoff.

  • Two words: Product Experience! Nothing gets me talking like a great product experience! If I am crazy about something – a movie, a restaurant, a recipe, a book, a website, a product (network marketing or otherwise) etc. – everyone I know is going to know about it. And I do it whether I make anything or not because I just love to share anything of value and help others.

After years of doing that, people come to me to find out about the latest greatest thing or where/how to get the latest greatest thing because they know I’m always reading and researching everything. And over the years I have met people just like me who love to share great things with me too.

There are lots of people out there just like us. Just think of all the inspirational/motivational emails that get passed around the world. Each of those people saw great value in it and wanted to share it with those they cared about. It is human nature.

So if we can help people see value in our product or service by providing them with an amazing experience in relation to our product or service, they won’t be able to tell their friends fast enough!

In my case, it is easy to do. Most people who experience my product lose 2-10 inches in 45 minutes just like I did! Now that’s something to talk about! They are usually dialing their friends on the spot telling them they have to try it! Wouldn’t you?!

  • If you want people to talk just say it was leaked by someone in the company or say this is a secret so don’t tell anyone. Try using these and see how long it takes to get back to you.
