You know, the feeling that you’re “making money off your friends”?
Here’s one way to avoid that feeling with your current pals and relatives…
Be UP FRONT about what you’re doing BEFORE you offer them your business, product or services. For example…
At the next bridge party, when it’s your turn to tell what you’ve been up to, say something totally up front about your business, like,
“Well folks, I’ve started a business of my own –
“I market this service for people who [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][have always wanted to earn some of their own income with their computer and never knew how] OR [who are always feeling guilty about forgetting to stay in touch with the people they care about] OR [who hate their facial hair, like I used to…]
“Anyway. If any of you know anyone who might like to know
about something like that, just ASK ME LATER. Do NOT feel
like you need to buy from me. You do NOT. I just want you
to know IN CASE you know someone. OK? That’s what
I’m up to these days.
[Pause and smile].
Then before anyone can respond (with the “oh that’s nice…”),
immediately surprise EVERYONE with this statement:
“Say Lulu, your new hairdo looks marvelous! Did you
go to a new place?”
See what you did? You just took the stress of everyone,
including you. The trick to it?
=> BE FIRST to IMMEDIATELY CHANGE THE SUBJECT – to
make a specific compliment or ask about someone else right
right after you say that.
“So Archie, what’ve YOU been up to?”
Notice – NOTHING of the name of the company, or the
name of the product, or any seller talk (“Oh, it’s SO
AMAAAAZING!!!!”) all of which is a sure turn-off and
squirm-creator for others.)

PS It’s from 2007. I’d give the same advice today. Issues
haven’t changed for folks, especially not the women
in our industry.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]
Timeless advice, thanks Kim.
