I am a well-dressed slave

So I was reminded by Dan Kennedy today. Here’s the sad story…

I have debt. Bills. How much of your life – like mine – revolves around what you have to do to pay your bills? Here are two ways to get rid of your bills:

1. Earn your way clear of them (something I have tried to do for 20+ years).

2. Reduce your debt and change the old “I want I want I want” attitude.

I’m fully engaged in #2, having so far failed long term at #1.

What’s your story? You a well-dressed [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][or SUV driving/whatever] slave too?

P.S. I made my first change: I’ve set up my 5 and 5 money control account and report five days a week, here. There are a bunch of us and you’re welcome to join us and start anew. Today.

It’s never too late as long as you’re above ground.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

  • Most folks are wage slaves and don't know it.

For example, employment is a modern form of bondage.

But it's legal and accepted by society, to the point where society is geared to promoting it.

Our education system is all about preparing students for a working lifetime of bondage in a master/servant relationship.

You do have a choice. You don't have to participate. Take the road less traveled. You'll be glad you did.

  • Kim, a great post, thanks. I used to have debts and it absorbed my thinking. Now I still need to work to pay my bills, but they don't keep me awake at night anymore. Looking back I think I hesitated too long to find a job again when I was not successful.

Perhaps the best way is to do 2 and 1 combined and in that order. Do work that you enjoy doing. If and when you then get in a position that you earn more you will be able to enjoy it immediately, because you reduced your debts already and you know better what you really want.

To Paul's comment I'd like to add: Most folks are slaves of their hunger to buy. So take the road less traveled also in network marketing. I admit that I too made it look for new people like a way out of their financial mess. It didn't work. So for me from now on only New School.

  • Kim,

Thanks for sharing something very thought provoking and something I believe Network Marketers fall victim too quite often for those who begin earning a nice income.

We live in an instant gratification society and have been taught by the media and good marketing that you should have it TODAY! And worry about paying for it tomorrow.

I feel blesses that I was raised by parents who never financed ANYTHING but their home, which they paid off long ago.

They aren't wealthy, but they are comfortable, even with the market drops and what's going on today.

I strive to model their methods and am not a "stuff" collector.

It's not always easy, especially with kids who always want the next biggest toy, and while we can afford to pay for much of that, we want to teach them about making choices and staying "lean."

    EXPECT Success!

  • I'm surprised to read that you have debt. My (our) story, a huge debt, almost over 96.000 euro, which we started paying off in 2006. Fortunately we found a rich friend, who has helped as out. Now we pay here 1025 euro every month, for the remaining 31 months. So yes, I'm a slave. Riding my bicycle to the station 🙂 Full story in dutch on my old weblog, almost rich and famous http://bijnarijkenberoemd.web-log.nl

  • Christel – You write: "I'm surprised to read that you have debt. "

    Surprised, huh?

One day last week I just had enough. I looked at my monthly commitments and realized I have to make a change.

And this (http://5and5wealth.com is step one.

Then I figured I'd fess up and tell…and invite the others to do something about it with me.

    With us.

    🙂

  • I am IN Kim as of TODAY!
I am working on my second fortune … BUT until I make that second fortune I MUST as Jim Rohn says, "Quit living up here" with an arrow point UP.

And that's what I have been doing.
Living beyond my means.. living on "Someday I'll….".
I have even let a coupla things "go" and so my credit is shot.
And rebuilding it will be slow.

I do have a debit card and now use it exclusively., but still buy too much.

I have canceled most of the gurus I get stuff from, keeping only 3 or 4 ..
And I am following only 1 and YOU as of the moment.

    And the clarity is wonderful.
    No more being overwhelmed!

I registered in the 5and5wealth program a bit ago but did not finish but will do so today!

As always, Kim, you help us sooo much by your example.
    You do walk your talk!
    Love
    Mary
