"I couldn’t do it for the money…"

In a recent class, a gal named Michelle told us how, over the last nine years, she had built up a base of thousands of customers. She said she was making good money, but was still at the #2 spot in the company. She was now ready to go to the top level.

HER QUESTION: “How do I find the kind of people who will take me to the #1 spot?”

So we asked her how SHE had gotten in.

“Well,” she related, “I was referring this neat product I liked to people I knew, and the person who sold it to me suggested I sign up so I could earn something on the referrals.”

“But I didn’t want to do that. I just wanted to help my friends and make a difference. I didn’t want to make money off them. I wanted to help them.”

Months went by, Michelle said, and she sent her friend many referrals.

One day her now-sponsor said, “You know you can make a difference in a lot more lives if you become a rep for this product line yourself.”

“That did it,” Michelle said. “I signed up to make a difference and the rest is history.”

  • Great question. Since she’s at the #2 spot with her company she obviously has quite a few customers. Those customers also obviously know about her product. So she can approach one of her customers who is madly in love with her product, and has been referring a lot of customers to her, and tell her:

    “My company is expanding and we’re looking for more customers. We need someone to help us find those customers and also recruit & train a sales team.

    “You have been referring a lot of customers to me. You can make a difference in a lot more lives if you become a rep for this product line yourself. Would you be interested in helping us if I showed you what to do?”

    Looking forward to that “Build Your Self Confidence” program. 😉

  • OK. First, find the most loyal and longest-standing customers, or closest friends that love the product. Probably (hopefully) you’ve spoken with these folks and have an idea of their needs/goals/dreams. If not, call them up and find out. Ask something like, “Sue, I know for a couple years you’ve been wanting to build a gazebo in the backyard, you probably have the finances figured out for that, but if you don’t, and that’s still important to you, and I might be able to show you a way to get the finances, would you want to hear about it?”

    Maybe it’s a cause your customer would like to support, the local SPCA, a political candidate, give each kid $10,000 for their birthday, move to the beach, go grocery shopping and buy whatever they want…

  • Tell her customers: You know, when I got involved with this business/product I did so because I wanted to “feel better…(Product benefits here). When I saw the “benfits” I got I decided I really wanted to help my friends, family, neighbors feel better. You know, more energy, sleep better (or what ever the product benefits are). I feel great making other people I care about feel good too. Do you know anyone that might care enough about others in their life that they would like to share this with and by doing so, feel good about themselves for having made a difference in their lives? And maybe by doing so make enough money to get their own products free?

  • She might try something like this for an existing customer. “I’m so glad to hear how much this product has helped you. It is wonderful when we can help others and I know you feel the same way. Did you know that you can help more people by becoming a rep for this company? You could even earn some extra money that you could use to pay bills or donate to your favorite charity all while helping people the same way you have been helped.”

  • Kim–I am “dying” to take your class.

    What I would say to my committed members would be:
    I’m looking for someone who loves this product and wants to help people, like I do and can see that by marketing these products, they can help a lot MORE people change their lives for the better.

    Do you know anyone like that?

    For a prospect:
    I’m looking for someone who is happiest when they are helping others and can see by marketing these products, they can touch lots of people.

    Do you know anyone like that?

  • Michelle should be looking for the same people that have the same passion she does. The ones that have her worldview–to help improve lives, not accumulate dollars.

  • Do an exact repeat of her own personal story: go to her “Remembering Room;” in that quiet place, get in touch with how she felt, what she thought and the action she took when her friend gave the resonating invitation to her… Now, from her own experience, give that same invitation to those who have been Being and Doing the same as she had… from the same energy, with the same caring and in the same, her own, words give the same invitation to which she responded, and, eventually, take those and help them take theirs also, to the TOP! with her…

    Second, she has to rank her warm market customers in the order of importance in the ACE in mind, for example ‘those who know that she runs a business,.
    Now she is ready to approach finding her Ace. She can ask her best of the best group” you know I am expanding my business and I am looking for a partner to help me build it, I want to run it by you just in case, do you have a second?”

  • Hi, Kim,

    I would tell Michelle when signing up customers that it would help them get their products paid for by telling some other people who have problems like they do, once they see results.

    If the objection comes up that they don’t want to make money on their friends, I tell them, “You are not making money on them. You are doing them a favor.” When speaking to their friends, tell them, “I am sharing with you information that makes you LUCKY to be talking with me today; because boy, do I have a story to tell you about what happened to me.!” They are not selling, just sharing.

    I also tell my customers that they don’t have to be full fledged distributors and recruit people and be like me (who does it most if the time). Most have other lives and are too busy and don’t WANT to do MLM like I do. But if they would share their good news and results with just a few, more people can benefit.

    These customers don’t want to be “networkers”; they JUST WANT the product. Some have indicated that to me.

    Many times my customers have become symptom free of serious illnesses and then call me up and say, “NOW I want to be a distribtor! I want to tell the world about XXXX!” (our company)!

    So, what I do if there is a monetary need by showing them them that by telling their story to others (just like I do), to people who are like them, their products can be paid for from their referral checks.

    That is how I have gotten to the top of my company. Most of my people are NOT quote,”network marketers”. Most are people who wanted to try the products for a health challenge, got results and then with true excitement will tell others.

    Just a few people you recruit, will want to go all the way to a 5 or 6 figure income; and really that is all you need–just a FEW! I had three who really worked like I did.

    The rest were customers who became distributors. The majority of my downline were just those types of people–those who got results and wanted to share them. So, I would tell Michelle, keep on getting those customers.

    Satisfied customers who talk, can make THE difference in your being Number One in your company.

  • She should go to the top reps in her organization…the ones she already knows are interested in the products, and are motivated to build a business-and tell them her goal of becoming number 1. She should ask for their help in finding those people she needs. She will help them talk to their “new” people, of course, because that’s what a leader does for their reps. If she succeeds, then they succeed and vice versa. Helping her make it to number one means their business will be built as well. Everybody wins!

  • If I were Michelle I would say
    “Kim, I know that you have a dream.
    I know that you are someone who wants to help others. Do you think you can help them without helping yourself? Success is all about aquiring wealth, but wealth is not all about money. You have shown that you are very coachable, and I have a method, handed down to me by those who have become very wealthy using that method, and a group of products that are the greatest in the world. Kim, I am looking for a few good people who will help me take this to the top. As a team, we will work together, train together, become wealthy together, so that we can help others do the same. Marketing is all about teamwork, and you have shown that you have ‘what it takes’, so let’s get together and get it going right now.
