We took an informal survey among women here today. It shows that 96% of the women networkers (104-4 so far see here) prefer a “more modest” language approach when you contact them about the business or product. Or likely, when they visit your site.
Seems women don’t much care for either hearing (or parroting to others): “This thing’s exploding!! Next Billion dollar company! Get in early!!”
Question to any of you who’ve been using that kind of language to recruit:
Will you adjust what you say to women to be more modest words and phrases? Or not?

Depends on whether she’s smarter than me!
Just KIDDING!!! 🙂

Well, I already do talk “Woman Talk”. Gave up that “my whatever is bigger than your whatever” nonsense years ago.
Hey! Let’s just talk to each other as humans, OK?

And many many many thanks to You, Kim Klaver, for providing a voice of sanity and reason in this sometimes over-hyped arena.
And many many many thanks to the sane and sensible readers of Kim Klaver blogs who provide a sensible and respectful community of networkers – independent of companies we all know and love.
Happy Thanksgiving Day.

I believe your are in fact referring to neuro linguistic programming. On the basis that people don’t know what they don’t know – it is important to get a reading on where the person you are speaking to is coming from before you start your schtick or your spiel. If I was talking to a country hick I wouldn’t use sophisticated Shakespearean English to reach them. If I was speaking to an academic I wouldn’t try to outsmart them but try to reach them on a visceral level. I think this goes beyond gender but to the core of what makes a person tick. Once we approach people on that level it gets easier. It is also important to listen as much or even more than we speak and to ask questions – thats where we find out what people want and then we just satisfy their need. What could be better than that? and yes that is a question so look forward to some answers. I never used that kind of language to begin with because it really turns me off.
