“You have the power to act only.
“You do not have the power to influence the result.
“Therefore you must act without the anticipation of the result
“Without succumbing to inaction.” –Bhagavad Gita
Would you have started your NM business if you knew that you did not have the power to influence the results? Will you continue it, knowing that?
New life question: What would you do – or stop doing – if you knew you did not have the power to influence the results?
(This replaces the grossly misleading question: “What would you do if you knew you could not fail?” Who hasn’t been suckered into making expensive mistakes with that impossible-to-resist line?)
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference…….
You're GREAT! You always come up with thought-provoking questions…and changed my perspective on this business. The leadership in our hierachy has been using that misleading question as a slogan for over 2 years now, and it sounds really corny. And I see more and more people fail, and the overall business shrinking…numbers on the bulletin board don't lie, people do!
The problem in this business is that if you don't do what you are told to do by your Upline you are called, "Uncoachable". People start doing stupid things when they are led to believe that they could not fail. They become insane by doing the same things over and over and expect a different result.
But we must keep taking action. Action will produce results(good or bad). And we must develop a sensory acuity to know what works and what doesn't. And do more of the things that work and avoid doing the things that do not serve us. How can we not fail if we keep doing the things that give bad results?
Sales, particularly prospecting, is an identification process.
We do not have the power to influence the results. Consequently, a few years ago I learned to stop trying to persuade people as well as overcoming objections.
If I am talking to someone and they say any form of "No", then I say, "Okay. Goodbye".
This takes the pressure off of me, and well as the person I am talking to.
This approach also makes the person more likely to talk with me again in the future, when the timing may be better for them.

I guess I can't see how that statement can be true. I can't influence my results? Every action I take will effect my results (even no action at all).
For me, a big part of having my own business is the empowerment it immediately provides. I can take full responsibility for both my successes and failures. Thoughts dictate actions and actions can't help but to influence an outcome.
I wonder who would bother getting out of bed each morning believing they are completely at the effect of outside influences? That would make for a very short career as an entrepreneur. I choose to believe that I am at cause in my business and life.
The only thing men or women would do if they knew they could not influence the results is chase their passion, dream.
This could be living in Miami, travelling, having a family, playing golf, boxing, and the list goes on and on.
I believe this to be true because they would not care what the results are, as long as they are doing what they love.
