Comments from Mr Rogers “One of the first things
that a child learns in a healthy family is trust, and I trust what you have said
that you will read this.”
With a great skill of “persuasion” as demonstrated in the video by Mr Rogers, the wealthy and influential would easily take me by the hand and add positively to the GROWTH of my business even if they have placed a status quo because any astute businessman/woman who has climbed the ladder of success could easily tell or smell some one who could even persuade the Eskimos to buy ice. Even the “Have-nots” would become sentimental and inspired and would trust me with hard earned money , This would greatly impact my business mostly because my speech would only allay their fears that i would definitely Walk the Talk.
I see it as the first sentence, when he gave his trust to the senator. “Senator Pastore, this is a philosophical statement and would take about ten minutes to read, so I’ll not do that. One of the first things that a child learns in a healthy family is trust, and I trust what you have said, that you will read this. It’s very important to me.”
I think I could benefit from learning how to present like Mr. Rogers because he gives credit & credence to the senator while at the same time he’s getting his message across. He doesn’t try to trick or disguise. I could use this method without feeling guilty or uncomfortable. I would not be able to do high-pressure sales, but I can do this. Plus, it’s short & quick. I could spend less time on selling & more time on getting to know people & helping them. It would help me to come out of my shell, stop thinking about what’s going on in my head, & relate to the person in front of me.
I could benefit from mr Roger’s presentation pattern by being me not trying to be salesy. Not trying to sale but to get the right massage out.
The comment that got the Senator’s attention was ” I care deeply for children. I am very much
concerned as I know you are …., I’d like very much for you to see the program.
This worked because Mr. Rogers made a personal connection with the Senator. He spoke to
the father of children not the political figure. He focused on the achievement factor of what
his program addressed for children. It addresses simply and gently. Mr Rogers spoke directly
to the Senator as if there was no one else in the room.
This kind of connection will put my business in the fast lane for success because of the type
of service I offer. Personal connection is essential. When the client is at ease and knows you
are genuinely concerned with their progress the rest is easy. The focus is on the client’s needs,
not what you are selling and how much you will make off of the client.
“But $6000 pays for less than 2 minutes of cartoons; 2 minutes of animated bombardment.”
Two minutes of animated, what I sometimes say, bombardment. is one We don’t have to bop
somebody over the head to…make drama on the screen is another.
It would be great to learn more about how not put what people do down even implicitedly.
“I’m very much concerned, as I know you are, about what’s being delivered to our children…” With that he’s saying that junk is being delivered to our children in a very subtle way, and then goes on to show a better example.
“I’m very much concerned about what out children are seeing.” In this way he is saying they are seeing junk out there.
