Seth Godin’s blog has a nice post today describing to one of his readers how to get updates to a blog without using email, “Totally 1990s”, says Mr. Godin, about email for blog and website updates.
Would you like to know when Kim’s blog is updated without having to get an email about it?
You get an RSS reader (they’re free and pretty easy, and two of the easiest are right on the web so you don’t even have to install anything). Whenever a blog or website is updated, it shows up in your reader and you can catch up on the news. If there’s nothing new, it doesn’t show up and you don’t have to waste time surfing around.
Mac users: I use NetNewsWire for MAC, which was a one time charge of about $20 but it is worth every penny. Most below are for PCs, and either free or a tiny charge (=less than $20 one time).

RSS is everywhere…When you click on one of the Chicklets, follow their instructions for getting an RSS reader.
That’s it. You’re done.
So are you going to do it now?
