I had a wild and weird idea the other day. It has to do with sprucing up our image by promoting causes in our own, individual names. Organized and focused, of course.
Here’s the basic idea.
Some of you know we have organized a site for network marketers (almost 400) from different companies (135 now).
Right now, members of Network Marketing Central (NMC) have good fun promoting their profiles and buying and selling products/services from each other, with virtually no one pushing their business onto anyone else. Just customers. In addition, many people have sought out NMC members to find new business homes, because most of them subscribe to New School principles. (Oh and no, Network Marketing Central membership not free, sorry.)
Anyway, because some people have strong interests in certain issues not related to their business – e.g. some aspect of the environment, alternative health, women’s issues, gardening, children’s health, politics… we have clubs members join. Like these:
(When you click on one, you’ll see a member list. Mouse-over any orange member name, and see who they are (little pop-ups with members appear). You can contact them through the NMC email system on the spot. Remember, NO SOLICITING anyone at NMC. Contact anyone here only if you have an interest in the club they belong to, or their product or business. DO NOT TRY TO SELL YOUR THING TO THEM.)
So here’s the idea: what if we organize people in the clubs around specific causes or issues, and donate money to one of them? EcoPlanet has over 70 members now. If 50 were to give $10 each to something/someone’s campaign they all care about, it would be $500 – enough to be noticed by the recipient. That’s when the fun would begin…because they’d be able to access the list of givers – individuals all – and have an immediate connection because of a shared cause that’s bigger than they are.
Why let company presidents have all the fun and get all the credit giving to causes on behalf of their companies? What if we do it as grassroots individuals, and get our individual selves some good attention and perhaps, publicity for the actions of people – network marketers all?
Your thoughts?
P.S. Yes, I’d organize this, but only for club members of NMC. In part because they do New School NM. I have only so much time and this is something I could get behind with such networkers. We might have an impact on our causes, and get some good publicity for individuals who are also New School network marketers.

What if you could learn to tell your story so you can surprise and delight your customer niche: Here’s a book and CD program to help. And here’s help for talking in a human voice about your business – a CD set and cribsheet .

Great idea Kim. In fact USANA has a similar program where individuals can donate any amount they want to the Children’s Hunger Fund. The Children’s Hunger Fund then gives recognition to the individual and so does USANA. Imagine that! The Children’s Hunger Fund also issues a charity receipt that one can use for tax purposes.
Happy donating

Great, Jane. Happy to hear that.
Kim this is a great idea. Question for you, How to set up a group for all us animal lovers? We could make a difference in the fur kids lives.
Happy Sunday

Robin – Yea we will set that up this week. We should probably have dog lovers and cat lovers, or fanciers, think?
Rani will contact you about working up the Manifesto, ok?
Kim, I like your idea. It fits in with what I’m working on. I have a goal of rising one billion dollars for other people’s favorite charities and inspire people to take better care of their health, their most valuable asset.
I call it the Billion Dollar Run. I still hold my high school record in the 800 meter run that I set in 1961 and I plan on breaking that record in July of 2008.
People can go to my web site, http://www.billiondollarrun.com and make a pledge to their favorite charity and in July 2008 at the Sunflower Games in Kansas I will complete in the 800 meter run. If I break my record then their pledge will double and for every 1/8 of a second faster than the record it will double again. The most it would double is 8 times, so a $4 pledge could become a $1,024 gift to their favorite charity.
No money comes to me. When a person makes a pledge on my web site, I receive an email indicating their pledge amount and the name of their charity. After my run in 2008, I will send my official time with their email to that their favorite charity and the charity will collect the money.
I get up at 3:45 am, leave my home at 4:30 am and walk to our local YMCA. I work out until 10:30 am on Mon, Wed and Fri and on Tue and Thur until 11:30 am.
I use Dr. Tudor Bompa’s training program. Dr. Bompa pledged $8 to his church in Romania. Now if I don’t break my record he will send them $8, if I break it by one second then he will send them $2,048.
There is a calculator on my pledge page so a person can calculate the maximum of their pledge.
Next month, I will be sending out Press Releases promoting my run. I want to give people a full year to raise the money for their charity and start their own exercise program.
Of course, I will use this platform to introduce people to USANA’s nutritional products and to the benefits of building a USANA network marketing business.
Respectfully,
Duane Spears
