I dare you not to cry…

son

Stunning series of images – winner of the Pulitzer prize for feature photography- about a Mom and her 10-year-old son.

When you click on the link, scroll down a bit, and start with the first photo top left. Read the text with each photo (easy to miss because you have to scroll to read it).

The song she sings to him with Andrea Bocelli, We were born to shine…” is here – the English starts at about 1:27 into the song. Open another window if you need to, so you can stay fixed on the image above as you hear the beautiful song she whispered to her boy.

Makes our problems look somehow smaller and surmountable, think?

Thanks, Robert.

Lyrics…

Like stars across the sky,
We were born to shine…
All of us here because we believe…

Once in every life there comes a time…
Walk out on our own and into the light…
The moment won’t last
But then we remember it again
When we close our eyes…

Like stars across the sky…
We were born to shine…
All of us here because we believe…

  • Each day is a gift, that’s why they call it the ‘present’….

May everyone be surrounded with light, laughter and love….

  • First I cried then I got angry. Very angry.

There are herbs that have been proven to irradicate cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone. Some of us here market them along with other products that might help those with these health challenges. Did this family even have a clue? I have no way of knowing, but I really doubt it.

    About me

  • Kim,

I am a breast cancer survivor. Thank you for the reminder that I can do so much more to help others when I look beyond myself.

  • I took the dare, failed, I cried.
This does make me look at my life differently, I’m blessed and know it most of the time.

I’ve started asking others this one little question “What’s the best thing that’s happened to you today”, borrowed from John Milton Fogg. It’s amazing how the answers to this question can brighten my day and keep me focused on everything good in the world.

    Thank you Kim and Robert

  • I, too, am changed forever…

I purchased Andrea Bocelli’s song on iTunes so I can remember:

    “Like stars across the sky…
    We were born to shine…”

While it seems senseless that Derek had to suffer, please consider that armed with the knowledge of his pain, we can all help more people around us everyday. That is, after all, why we are here, and why we woke up this morning.

Kim, thanks for a powerful reminder of what life is all about.

    God Bless everyone!

  • Why do you have to “dare me not to cry”…?

You could have simply invited me to be moved to tears… touched by love… I would have said yes, then thank you.

I’d so much rather you—any of you—be in my heart than in my face…

  • heartbreaking. We just went through a similar situation with a two year old friend. Fortunately, his cancer had a better prognosis and he is in remission. Two years of weekly visits, spinal taps, injections, meds, holding your breath with every cold. It made me eliminate the words “I’m having a bad day” from my vocabulary. God bless these families and thank God for the love of a mother and/or father.
