“I really want to put my business into high gear in 2007. Should I do Google ads? Should I do Orange Ads? Should I do email campaigns or newspaper and magazine ads like I have been? – AND I want to get customers AND reps!”
–Mary Jane Medlock
She’s a network marketer – an entrepreneur. What should she do?
Entrepreneur n. a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, esp. a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.
Initiative and risk. Mary Jane had not bargained for that. 🙁
So what should she do?
Fortunately, there’s a giant picnic table of methods that people have used successfully over the years. They require different levels and kinds of risk and initiative, from very low to very high.
So Mary Jane, questions for you:
- How high is your self esteem?
- Can you take lots of Nos or not?
- What’s your budget?
- Do you like working online or off?
- How much time can you commit?
- Are you a people person or not?
- Etc.
There are methods to match your level of initiative and risk.
For example, most online methods cost less than newspaper advertising, direct mail or leads.
For the computer-challenged, there are offline methods that don’t cost as much as ads or direct mail, such as making local calls to small businesses in one’s neighborhood, or giving talks for local groups.
Other suggestions for Mary Jane, anyone?
On NMC, we’ll be starting up forums and buddy systems across companies (128 to date), to share information about the different methods of reaching out and to motivate people to action.

My guess is that a lot of us have the same questions. I’m hoping that we can offer suggestions and support to each other in the NMC forums and maybe even find some NMC people to “partner” with for joint ventures.

It does take time. I can see that now. The one thing I can see is that you have to stick with it now matter what happens if you want to be successful. I did all the wrong things for most of 2007. Now that I found Kim, I have my head on straight and I know that I will be successful. I am advertising in the month of January. So far not much but I know it will happen. My huband John and a certified personal trainer and extremely personable. He has met some very heavy hitters in my area and they all love him. The word will get out and then I know we are going to explode. John will be working at two Gyms and he is going to a new one and they hired him on the spot. This gym will be gatering to all retirees because it is located right in that community. Can you see it. He is also going to start lecturing at the Cities and Counties because these agencies want their people in good shape in order to lower health costs. He is also getting a certification in Nutrition. These are some of the other things that will give us credibility. I am the brains and accountant behind the scene. He sends them to me when they want to buy so I sign them up. Teamwork. This is our plan. I know it is going to work. Get you face out their and specialize in something. Get involved in the community so people get to know you. Networking that is what we do. Just like looking for a job. Hope this helps.
Mary Jane, what exactly do you mean by “kicking my business into high gear?” Are you talking about finding 100’s or 1,000’s of customers or finding reps? Which one do you want to put more emphasis on? That will determine where you’ll need to start. Realistically, how much are you willing to spend on your business each month over the next 12 months? Are you looking for ways where you go to the people or the people come to you?
Different methods work for different people. Some people like online marketing better, for others it’s a challenge. Chose something you are comfortable with…and draw out a road map, because…if you don’t know where you are going, you won’t like where you end up.
Success to all!

Mary Jane,
Look at the forum sections at NMC. This will give you a “menu” of choices of marketing methods. Listen to yourself and decide which 3 methods are best for you based on your personality and experience. Then focus on only these 3 methods for the next 2 months. Ask questions in the forums. Out of 350 members, there should be members knowledgeable about your methods.
All the best,
-Alex

Thanks SO MUCH for your comment.
To answer your question… I already have 100’s and 1,000’s of customers…. I pretty much live on referrals at this point… I have been in this business since 2002 and I JUST LOVE IT!!…
I spend too much time working, (smile) however, this year I am focusing on reps so that I can teach people to do what I do. I am a major success in my business… I worked very hard to get where I am, but you see, it is time for me to go to the next level, the next step, so to speak. If I can find some people just like me, that are just as passionate about my product as I am, then I will have jumped over another hurdle, and certainly on my way to my VISION… my goals.
So how will I do that?? Easy, interview the customers that I have been working with over the past years that have had great success and guidance under my coaching.. Now, lots of them are just happy being healthy… that is truly there reward and are not interested in the business but only there health, and others are thinking about it… I have many that are the “nylon stocking” ladies and are content with making a few hundred a month…
Therefore, when I have exhausted my downline customers it’s time to go to the next step… and that is what my conversation with Kim was about.. (and by the way, I had no idea it would end up in the headlines of her blog…hehehehe… you just never know where you end up with Kim… it’s great)..
LET ME TELL YOU MY STORY:
I started back in 2003 when I took Kim’s 3 scripts class… at that time I didn’t even know what MLM stood for… honestly, I knew nothing…
I went into KIM’s class kicking and screaming so to speak because I didn’t think I could learn anything from Kim. She didn’t know me.
She knew NOTHING about my business nor my product, but hesitantly, I took her class… I was the first one on the call… (at that time years ago she was doing her 3 scripts class via telephone)…anyway, she asked who wanted to go first… I said, “I will”… the real reason for that is because I wanted to hang up after we finished… I thought, great… I will go first and get this over with and when she goes to the next person, I will be gone….
Well.. to my surprise… I did go first and Kim and I put my script together and she went on to the next person… while she was talking and creating the next persons script, I got an email from this woman…. she wrote, “I am interested in your product, can you send me some info”…. I thought… this is a perfect opportunity to use my script… (I was on this call about 20 minutes at this point)… I cut and pasted my script WORD FOR WORD from what Kim’s class that I had just created and sent it off…
Within five minutes I got a reply email from this woman saying, “not only do I want this product, my husband wants it too”… I wrote her back and told her what I needed from her and within 20 minutes, I had a “script” and placed two orders in the amount of $400.00 using the script…. it was AMAZING….
That was it for me… I WAS HOOKED!!! I incorporated what I learned from Kim and the tools that my company provided and became a major success… at first I used the script on my biz cards, brochures, flyers… sometimes I would just use certain parts of my script too.. but all in all I put my own “twist” on what I learned and “worked it”… now I need to “kick it up a notch”… and I will… that is why I am here… smile
Thanks so much for your comment… I really enjoyed it… It was fun going back years ago… five years ago… Time just flies doesn’t it?? Mary Jane
The best way to advertise in the party plan is to verbally advertise at each and every party. You have the entire group of guests in the palm of your hand so they would be the ones to excite and book a party.
Also call 5 people every day and you will have a date book full of parties.
When you go to the mall, dr office, dentist take an old catalogue and a label on the front “if you like what you see in this catalogue please take me home and call the number on the back”
Anyone who comes within your 3 foot circle….offer the opportunity
