NM sense Tip #3: MySpace Connections

Myspace.com is the huge social website that’s been the latest rage of the online world.

Once for the twenty-somethings, it’s now used by all ages as people have come to realize what a wonderful way it is to meet like-minded people anywhere in the world – including locally.

Network Marketing Sense Tip #3: MySpace Connections (Thanks, Robin.)

Level: Medium
Where: Web
Cost: $00
Time: 20-30 minutes to set up.
Downside: May get spam (unsolicited) email from ‘friends’ (DELETE.) Stay away from weird profiles.

Robin, a pet lover who seeks out other pet lovers to show her pet products to, wrote:

1. I set up a MySpace account 3 weeks ago.
2. I search profiles looking for people within 50 miles of me that have put pet pictures on their profile.

3. I invite these people to be my friend on MySpace.” (
Robin’s Myspace profile is here.)

My profile talks about my love of animals and the pet products I market. It’s no hype, just information using my first date script. I put my NMC profile button on it.

In the last 3 days I’ve had 4 new friends email me for more information on the products.

An email I got today is a breeder wanting to meet to talk about the business.

This has been a great way for me to find pet people in my area. It’s amazing how many people you can meet from searching profiles. If they are interested they contact me. The more people I invite as a friend the more my NMC profile is viewed, the more the word gets out about my product.

  • Once again, great tip.

I technically have a My Space account, I’ve never done anything with it at all. I think I saw too many weird profiles and was scared away.

Also, as an aside for you Kim, according to my techie-in-the-know friend, My Space is starting to get a bad rap as a place where companies are setting up fake profiles and pretending to be real people gushing on and recommending their own products. Talk about deception and not being up front!

I never thought of using My Space as a way to market my business, but with Robin’s success and the helpful tips in this post, I’m ready to give it a go.

I think the key is to be real, just like what the New School is. No Seller talk. No techno-babble. Just a real person, and an honest to God testimonial.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks Robin for the tip. I’ve had a MySpace account for at least a year, but never could quite understand HOW it really worked to interest people in what I was doing.

However, in the past month, thanks to a BUSINESS version of MySpace called Big Daddy Friends, I’m beginning to better understand how these communities work. Initially, I just didn’t see the point to adding people to your ‘friends’ list without any further interaction. But leave it to my 19 year old son to show me the way when I saw him replying to people who post comments on his profile. He’s trying to get people interested in his rap music (ARGH, DON’T get me started! 🙁 ). Just the other night, I told him that he’s actually networking!

And somewhere in my Internet travels, I found a video that showed how to search for groups on MySpace, type in the keyword you’re looking for and interact with the members of that particular group. I tried it, but now can’t find the group I posted to. LOL

While I personally think MySpace is just a bit too strange for my tastes, I’m going to be using Big Daddy Friends to hone my networking skills because it looks and feels EXACTLY like MySpace, only the members all appear to either be in business or are all marketing something.

What I have also discovered as a member of Big Daddy Friends is the idea of ‘Social Bookmarking’. I’m still learning how this all works, but think it’s going to be HUGE once people understand it and begin to implement it.

If anyone would like to join my network on either community, feel free to send me a PM and I’ll be happy to send you my links.

  • I’m beginning to see more and more on MySpace for Networking. I’m convinced that if used properly it could change the way we network and have a huge impact on our business in the future.

Yes, there are a lot of wierdos on MySpace!

However, I’ve already been introduced to several, really great networkers, all through MySpace!

Here’s my profile, if Kim allows it: http://myspace.com/stayhomedad2k7

Come on in and let’s be friends!
