They sell cigarettes, don’t they?

backfingers

At dinner last night with two nutritionists. One of them, Beth, related this story:

“I was having lunch with a friend, who I thought knew about healthy foods. Anyway, she orders coffee and reaches for the NutraSweet. I almost scream, but instead, I ask her:

‘Lilly, did you know that’s poison? The Aspartame in it is a sugar substitute that’s poisonous and addictive…it’s the same stuff that’s in diet sodas…’

She looked shocked.

‘But they wouldn’t let people sell things as bad as that, would they?’

‘They let the tobacco companies sell cigarettes, don’t they?’

She put it back.

We all hope that “they” wouldn’t let people do bad things. But “they” do because “they” are often the ones who benefit. And we, well, we’re all just too busy to look into everything. We need to give our trust because we all try to do too much.

Most of us are just as unsuspecting and trusting in network marketing. We hope they’re telling us right, because well, it’s the company or the big successful upline, right? What do we know?

But who benefits by keeping things the way they are? You? Or them?

They still sell cigarettes, don’t they?

  • Who benefits………..both them and those who just believe.

They make their claims and we do our “research” by just believing them and repeating what they say.

Why, another good question. Maybe desperation? People are trying to put out their pain and along comes….the magic answer. To be fair, the answers are usually professionally prepared so they may have the upper hand.

So…..when we hear the magic answer, push back, think about the reality of what they are saying and do some real research, don’t just believe.

  • That’s why it’s So Important to read your company’s Policy and Procedure. It’s all written out there in black and white. That is your contract with the company, read it and protect yourself!

I personally know of many people who have not read their Policy and Procedure, trusted the company and lost their business and/or organization because of a little clause buried in there, that they had no idea existed.

Do fool yourself, this stuff happens. Educate yourself so it doesn’t happen to you!

Them. The company whose product I love and so represent on my website, is all about urging reps to promote the opportunity. Ugh.

This is why I am here, listening to Kim and changing the way I represent the great products I do. Because I can benefit, too, but not by listening to the companies. Except for Amazon Herb. They are all about the products, knowing those who love them madly will pick up the promotional end of things.

  • Read the policies and procedures because they are your contract.

The company will hold you to the contract you sign.

Some companies have very distributor friendly polices and procedures and other companies put many “gotchas” in for the distributors.

Always read the policies and procedures.

  • This is so true and there are so many people out there that think that you can trust everything you hear or read.

I was talking candidly with someone today even about our products and how some people are unknowingly misrepresenting the product and its ingredients because they simply don’t know what the ingredients are and haven’t done their own homework.

The company doesn’t say these things, however the reps think they know what they are talking about and the sad fact is that even more unknowing customers believe what people say online or by word of mouth. Occasionally someone might have a bad reaction to a product that could have been avoided if that person was given the correct information.

That is why I love what Kim says about no promises or guarantees. At the same time we need to do a bit of homework and help ensure that we talk to people and communicate the right information, especially when it comes to someone’s health or safety.
