When all eyes are on you…

QueenEI
As Spain’s Armada neared England in 1588, Elizabeth I, whose hold on her crown was tenuous and whose country was a second-rate power, spoke these words at Tilbury docks:

“I am come amongst you…at this time…being resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live and die amongst you all; to lay down for my God, and for my kingdom, and my people, my honour and my blood, even in the dust.

“I know I have the body but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too!”

That speech defined her, her reign, and her realm: You can hear its echo in the language of every subsequent heroic English leader, from Nelson to Churchill. – Harvard business Review, January, 2007.

What do you do and say to your people when dark clouds are gathering all around them – and you?

  • I encourage my people to stick with what feels right for them and to take a step back if they need to from the daily grind.

Just because everyone else seems to be cold calling for example, it may not be for everyone.

I have found that it is easy to become overwhelmed with all the new information and options offered to new distributors, so sometimes I just give them and myself permission to ignore everthing and go spend time relaxing.

  • I wish I had could say it as elegantly as Queen Elizabeth but I am not. Instead I say something like “If you stopped selling the product would you still use the product?, if so hang in there, there are more people out there like us we just have to find them.”
Then we look at what they are doing and what has worked and what isn’t working.

I’m just an amatuer when it comes to speeches,

  • Dark clouds are just that – dark clouds. They won’t hang around forever. My mom always told me, “every dark cloud has a silver lining”. So even when times get tough, I look for the “good”.

I’m a fighter, I don’t give up easily. If it totally becomes overwhelming, I step away and take a break. You get a different perspective when you are looking at a problem then if you are right in the middle of it. That’s what I tell my people. “Take a break!”

Don’t quit! You might miss the rainbow that comes just after the dark clouds.

    Have a great day!

  • I remind myself and my team that there are over 6 billion people on the planet and we just need a few people who see what we see, and are willing to do whatever it takes, for however long, to get it done.

I don’t remember where I first heard it, but I liked it and have adopted it as my own . . . so when needed, also share this with my team:

  • Being a fellow Brit myself – it has always been the job of the hierarchy to keep the masses motivated – very similar to the team leaders in mlm because the leaders benefit from keeping everyone in place. I guess thats fine as long as everyone is getting what they want. It is interesting that we are in a business that people put up with lack of success for much longer than they would do if they were having to prove themselves to a boss. I think it is important for us to be honest with ourselves whether the ends justify the means and whether the company we are working with warrants the loyalty and motivation we are giving it after a reasonable period of time. If not do what I have just done and join a company where the potential seems to be greater and put the other company on the back burner. Juliette Gray http://www.itvsuccessline.com
