American Idol star owns up to past failures…

Idol
American Idol creator and talent judge Simon Cowell is the biggest reason many people say they watch the wildely successful TV show, American Idol. But Mr. Cowell is the first to admit that he was not successful before this show, despite many years of trying.

Here’s his take on his past failures:

What role has failure played in you career? For instance, your label Fanfare Records went under in 1989, and your reality show Cupid was canceled in 2003?

“When I was 30 the company that owned Fanfare went bust, and I effectively lost everything. I had to move in with my parents. In hindsight, it was the best thing that happened in my life because I 1) learned the value of money: not to borrow money and not to live beyond my means. And 2) I learned that getting there is more fun than being there. But 3) one thing that I have always been able to do is to own up to my mistakes and not blame others.” – Simon Cowell

A mouthful indeed.

  • I’d like to paraphrase Simon’s 3 Points – Important life lessons for everyone, no matter who you are:

    1. Know your means and do not live beyond them.
    2. Life’s a journey – enjoy the highs and the lows.
    3. Take responsibility for yourself and your actions – It’s YOUR life.

  • What did Thomas Watson (one of the founders of IBM) say?

If you want to succeed, double your failure rate.

In business, you fail your way to the top.

  • Wow! That’s really something about Mr.Cowell. That experience I’m sure helped form him to who he is today.

I failed miserably my first 7 years in network marketing. As a matter of fact, my kids used to laugh and me and say “mom, why do you keep doing this, you aren’t makeing any money.” And no, I didn’t. But, I’m not a quitter and eventually it paid off. I’m making money now. I’m not where I want to be yet financially but I’m working on it.

And guess what, my kids now have joined me in my business ;o)

“Quitters never win and winners never quit.”

  • I am new to Network Marketing and I know that I may have set backs along the way, but I do not believe in failure as long as I stick with it.

The only way to truly fail is to quit. I am afraid to fail at small things like saying the wrong thing to a possibility thinker, but I know that as I continue to take risks I will learn from my small “failures” along the way to success.

I have no idea who said it, but “there is no so such thing as failures, only learning experiences”. I know I didn’t just come up with that myself so if anyone knows who to credit it with please let me know.
