Wait, you say: Isn’t the promise of big money enough?
Err, it seems not.
Lulu signs up all excited about getting rich, spends $1,500 on her start up package, talks to three people she knows, gets the pukey treatment, and bows out. Now she won’t take your calls anymore.
So what makes some people stick, even when they’re not in the money yet?
I asked a group that last week: Why are you still in the business even when you’re not making much money yet?
Here were some of the reasons they gave…
“I just love this business – I love to know I am making a difference in someone’s health.”
“I’m just a cockeyed optimist.”
“I won’t be a social security survivor.”
“I just LOVE my products and want to tell the world.”
“I just love doing my own thing, even it it doesn’t make much money yet. It’s MINE.”
Since THESE are the kinds of reasons real people are sticking, wouldn’t you want to know the answer to the our title question right when you first sign someone up?
After all, if it’s just the money they came for, we can pretty much predict the outcome, can’t we? That is, if the past (=95% drop out) is any indicator.

Great point Kim!
I think we often buy into the “get ’em in our deal” mentality that’s so prevalent in sales and NWM especially.
I am thoroughly enjoying taking a more selective position this trip … with both customers and business partners.
No more whiners, complainers, needy or visionless “why-free” folk for me.
To get my attention, they have to want more than just money … they have to have a sincere desire to serve … you know the old “help others get what they want”. And they must also have a bulletproof “Why” … or no go.
Turns out it’s actually a pretty powerful position to work from. Saves lots of angst too (grin).
I appreciate you!
Andrea
The money is definitely the most common reason that people get involved. But within the first 3 months, as they build their beliefs in this business and it’s tremendous values, they soon realize that it’s more than $$.
The fulfillment of being part of something bigger than themselves and belonging to a group of mind liked individuals are two other reasons I find more and more people love NWM. We live in a world where we cocooning is a way of living…ipod etc.
This industry brings us back together and foster HUMAN relationships! Carpe Diem! Seize the day!
Why? seeing a heart smile in their eyes, same as I feel…
Carolyn
The relationships forged in NW..very important.. and the helping people have more energy, feel better, etc…really important.
Just NETWORKING…. says it all.
And IF we are with a good company AND have great life-changing products with a fair comp plan we DO usually get paid more in line with what we are worth in MLM than anywhere else ….in my experience anyway.
Gotta love people though… all kinds and we learn tolerance IF we didnt already have it!
