CNN Anchor Kyra Phillips turns bad press into a win…

badpress2
How do you come out a winner when the bad press you get is national and it’s all over the Internet in 24 hours?

A winner is someone like Kyra Phillips, CNN anchor who accidentally took a microphone into the bathroom and then went on David Letterman to redeem herself.

Her reaction was on a scale with the bad press she got: national.

No matter where the bad press comes from, from the local paper to the national media, you can come out a winner if you adopt a transparent attitude, a sense of humor, if you’re authentic and if you have confidence.

Everyone goofs up once in a while. Companies also goof up once in a while. Maybe they overhyped the product, as a local paper accused Mannatech of doing.

But that accusation, even if true, doesn’t change what the product has done for anyone over the past 10 years, does it?

Hype and promises can kill good products.

Stick with YOUR story and the stories you know. That’s all I’d need. After all, everyone says their science and technology is the best. What matters first to me is whether it WORKS for me. Everything else is either second or irrelevant.

P.S. Silly comments like “It’s just a sugar pill” are usually from people with an agenda or axe to grind, on a par with “Oh, it’s just pond scum.” Like “the iPod is just another fad gadget,” from the lips of a competitor.

  • Dear Kim,
This is a big thank you for the work you are doing. I was in MLM for a long time with the idea of getting other people to work. It was insane. I couldn’t do it because the premise was wrong and I knew that the average person couldn’t make it with the methods employed. I became a professional salesperson and now work in sales consulting which is one of the more fun jobs for me so I study different ways of selling, different trainers and here is what I see.
You are most likely one of the most important people in the field of MLM. You are so sane it is just great to hear you talk and I have listened in to many, many of your talks and did one of you classes as well as have your books.
Looking back I see that with the same effort I made in sales, if I had made sales in an MLM company, I would be a big, big player.
And this is what I like. You tell people the truth. They are in a sales business, they should sell and then recruit people who want to sell.
Imagine this. You have 300 customers and are making $10,000 per month, no recruits yet. You talk to another and say, would you like to make the same. You help this one or maybe two at a time. Now you are building a strong business where people can be proud.
So Ms. Kim, here is another view of what you are doing. You are helping in the process of making sane MLMers, which makes for a stronger, happier business builders, which makes for a stronger economy, which makes for a stronger world. Sales people do keep our world in business and you are influencing tens of thousands. How wonderful. You are teaching people how to fish and fish sanely so that they can catch something right away and start winning today.
I love the MLM industry and the idea of it being done in a sane way is new to me.
So, I just want to say thank you for your work.
    God bless.

    Sales Consultant
