How to know your audience…

The other day I asked: How do you ask for your audience?

That assumes you have an idea of who they might be.

For anyone who has learned the hard way that (so sorry) it is not everyone, no matter how loud you scream, who is it that might buy your product?

(We can do the business in another post.)

Start with yourself. Are you celebrity conscious? Is that what got you to try the product? Then lead with “Celebrity X endorses this product!”

That will bring in those people who are turned on by that.

Are you someone who likes to try new things?

Then you might go with something like what Roxanne put out there: “Testers wanted for new energy drink!”

Are you someone who is already into new nutritional supplements and you’re looking for the latest greatest like one of my business partners is? Then you might go with something more in depth for the nutritional nuts, like we did online here (warning: I own a piece of this new little tiny company so click at your own risk ): Staying Alive Press see here.

Who is YOUR audience? People who care about [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][what] in a big way? The more specific, the better they’ll hear you.

People who [blah blah blah specific specific specific] are my audience. Go ahead and try it. Put some thinking time into it. It’s not as easy as it looks.

It’s not for nothing that 95% of networkers quit. Or that only one in 100 people want to do sales.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

  • Wonderfully stated, Michele!

Since we love and sell the same product, just for variety I might say:

People who care about nutrition but don’t eat enough fresh fruits and vegetables every single day are my audience.

  • My audience are those who care about avoiding synthetic chemicals and helping the environment enough to use certified organic personal care and nutritional items, and those with skin problems who can’t find anything to help.

  • This is such an important exercise . . . and it is SO HARD to get out of the mindset of “everyone will want my product or opportunity”.

There’s a great book that I think everyone should read, called “Stumbling on Happiness.” The author talks about how difficult it is for our mind to escape how we are feeling right now. In other words, we project how we are feeling right now onto how we will feel in the future. And we project how we are feeling right now onto how we think others are feeling right now.

We’re all in the business because we think our product / opportunity is the best thing since sliced bread. So, naturally (because of the default wiring of our brains) we assume others will see it the same.

It seems that most networkers find out the hard way that that’s not the case (myself included)! 🙂

    So, that leaves three options:

    (1) Quit

    (2) Work the numbers

    (3) Target your audience

Personally, I’m somewhere between Option 2 and 3, but trying to get more to Option 3.

Here’s an idea I learned this weekend that totally aligns with this principle:

Market your weight loss product at bridal shows.

Evidently, there are very few brides, brides maids, mothers, or mothers-in-law that don’t want to shed a few pounds to look better in their dresses. And . . . compared to the cost of the wedding, buying some weight loss products is just a drop in the bucket!

    Pretty neat idea I thought . . .

    3) Use Technology Tools like Reciprocal Linking Software…

    4) Use Stand-Alone Websites….

    5) Promote yourself as above average…

    6) Promote your business as not for the average person for the average person in mlm has no cash flow, is that what you want in your distribution channels…???
