My senior programmer, Shane, wrote me today:
“You know Kim, today I helped an older woman carry groceries to her car. She said, ‘I have never met someone like you, where did you come from?’
Made me feel so great.”
Who said, “Commit a random act of kindness”? Shane was putting out there who he is. Helping a total stranger in a moment of need, rewarded completely by the feel-good he got from her reaction. Like Van Dyke said here.
T’is the season to do likewise. Surprise someone with a random act of kindness. Tell us how they beamed and how you felt. Builds up good karma, think?
P.S. Doing stuff with the expectation of getting something back other than the feel-good doesn’t count as a random act of kindness. That’s marketing.

I had a super busy Holiday with over 50 dogs and cats at the kennel. Soldier, a senior yellow Lab was in decent health but needed to have his food and water elevated and he had to sleep on a pillow to keep him from vomitting. I realized he wouldn’t eat from the bucket I clipped on his gate so I held the bowl up to keep him standing while he ate. I found a king size pillow we didn’t use so gave it to Soldier to keep his head up during the night. This wasn’t a big thing to me. I have an 18-year-old dog that has taught me many tricks about the senior dog’s needs.
Soldier’s people thought it was wonderful the way I cared for their dog and sent a sweet Christmas card thanking me for “caring” for their old guy and doing the extras.
I always feel great when I help animals but extra great when their people really appreciate it.
I know this isn’t like what Shane did for the lady but it touched the heart of someone in the same way.
WHat goes around comes around.
