If everyone likes it, the product will not succeed.

Sunday is spiritual day.

Do you love it madly, or do you just like it?

The difference predicts the success of a thing. Liking it is not enough, even if everyone does…but the lovers, ahh the lovers…

From Dilbert’ blog

“If everyone exposed to a product likes it, the product will not succeed… The reason that a product “everyone likes” will fail is because no one “loves” it. The only thing that predicts success is passion, even if only 10% of the consumers have it.”

He continues:

“For example, I’m willing to bet that when the TV show Baywatch was tested, 90% of the people rolled their eyes and gave it a thumbs down. But I’ll bet 10% of the test audience had tents in their pants. Bingo.

“Dilbert was the same way. From the very beginning, the vast majority of people who saw it didn’t care for it. But 10% who saw it not only liked it, they cut it out and mailed it to friends. They talked about it. They hung it on walls. They were passionate about it.”

So my first question to you is, do YOU love your thing madly? Your product, your service, or your busines? MADLY? It all starts with you. Then as you make the rounds getting reactions and asking for referrals, keep Dilber’s advice front and central, as counter-intuitive as it may seem:

“If you invent a new type of umbrella [fusion_builder_container hundred_percent=”yes” overflow=”visible”][fusion_builder_row][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][or market a new headache/energy you-name-it product/service], and every person who sees it says “that is clearly better than all other umbrellas [your product] on the market” then you have nothing. Walk away.

But if someone who barely knows you demands to buy six of them for everyone in his family, and doesn’t first ask the price, and is willing to drive to your house to pick them up, then you might have something. Great ideas catch on immediately, and passionately, at least with the early adopters.”

So I’d start with you: Do you love it madly or not?

Remember, Jesus only had 12 who loved him madly, and now look.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

  • I always think it is funny when I hear Jesus compared to network marketing. I am sure many Christians cring at the thought, I am not one of them. I think it is the truth: He did claim to be the son of God after all, setting the example for all mankind. Who can argue with those credentials?

  • Not to go overboard with the network marketing/Jesus comparison…what it all boils down to is the fact that Jesus relied on relationships to “market” his product, that of salvation. But he didn’t do it by trying to “sell” people on their need for a savior…rather he formed a relationship first, then offered his gift of salvation. I could really go deep here but I won’t…my point is that not everyone responded to Jesus’ message of salvation. Not everyone will respond to our message of better health/wealth or whatever we have to offer. It’s all about what they want and if they don’t want to hear about it, then leave it. They may come around to your way of thinking or they may not. All you can do is offer it.

  • The point of the Jesus comparison, one of my favorites, is how few he got who said yes. And now look.

We tend to feel we need everyone to say YES in network marketing. Why else does most everyone quit after three say no?

But most people say NO regardless of what is being offered. And if you are lucky enough to have a few who LOVE it MADLY, you have a chance to make something big out of it. Like Dilbert did. Or Jesus. Or others who have succeeded.

You don’t need many. You need a few who love it madly, who believe and spread the word.
