Just got this from Lulu, a gal who tried a product an acquaintance was selling.
“Now I get 5-10 emails each week with testimonials. That’s cool, I like those stories.
“But I have also been added to her prospect list for the business without EVER mentioning that I was interested in that. Now I feel all… exposed, like a neon dollar sign, ya know? — Just today I got this (this is just a small part of it…)
“Talk to enough people – we are in the people business – we are setting up mini-franchises- multi-millionaire businesses all over the world – you will have drinkers and business builders – *70% will be drinkers.*
“Everyday, you must do something for your business – ask people – have you ever heard of X PRODUCT – 99% will not have heard about it and then you have an opening to tell them – just a couple people a day will have you talking to enough people to *make you a millionaire* – you need to figure out your number and make the commitment….
*3 out of 10 will want to do something with their life and will do something with this business* – blah blah blah.”
Lulu adds – “Amazes me that people, especially nice and well-meaning people, do this to others without realizing how it sounds to the reader….”
If you had bought a product from someone, and suddenly started getting these kinds of emails regularly, how would you react?
Would these kinds of emails make you feed more or less attracted to them?
Results so far here.

Sounds like they were opted in without ever having given their permission. Not a good thing. (Does she have the option of opting out.)
This person, and probably the entire email list, is looked at as expendable. Some will do ‘The Business’, some won’t, next. That type of thing.
The value of having a good customer is not fully appreciated.

This part was terrible, “you will have drinkers and business builders – *70% will be drinkers.*” I’ve never heard that one and wonder how it fits???
This lady is throwing mud against the wall and hoping some will stick.
It’s so much better and more attractive to treat customers the way you would treat a good friend or family.
I’m sorry Lulu has to go through this.

I know if it were a friend, I would have to let them know that you cannot cross that line by sending those types of emails to customers. Even if it were an acquaintance, I think if I cared enough to want to help that person, I would have to take the time to talk to them to let them know this just will not get them where they want to be. Not only are they not going to achieve what they are hoping for, but they are also going to lose customers that would rather buy from someone else who has more business sense.
I agree with the above statements… this person has the ability to allow Lulu to choose this side of the message – why hasn’t she? Every press release has boilerplate at the bottom; couldn’t a piece of dead-simple boilerplate be attached to every communication? Something like “This is also a business… interested?” (highlighted link to a new autoresponder) Most MLMers have heard how a person doesn’t eat at a sandwich and necessarily want to open a sandwich shop. But, many sandwich shops put franchise info on their napkins and cups. That either piques your interest or you stop noticing it and keep returning for the sandwiches.
Sounds like this person needs to learn how to set up separate auto responders. I have three that I use. One is for prospects for the product only. My second one is for prospects for the product & business opportunity. My third one is for customers who don’t become distributors. The emails I send to each of these groups are completely different and targeted appropriately to who they are (i.e. product only and customers don’t get emails about the biz op, etc)

What an awsome business process to get yourself completely ostracized from everyone you know. Follow these simple steps and you too can join the NFL (No Friends Left) Club. Someone needs to tell her and fast.
