Is MLM the safest place to be in this weird economy?

A top recruiter was gent selling the NM business the other day. He announced that network marketing was “the safest place to be” in this “new” economy.

What do you think? Is that statement true or false?

UPDATE: Here are the results so far. One clear result is to question 3:

3. Should we show recruits ways to find their customers and recruits outside of their warm market?
98%+ say YES.

What are some methods you have used successfully to find customers and recruits outside of your warm market?

Another clear results is question 5:

5. Should recruiters stop pretending it’s easy and anyone can do it when the evidence shows 95% of persons drop out in debt and unhappy?
92.7% say, YES, stop pretending it’s easy and risk-free

What should we say in the opp meetings instead, then?

  • I don’t know that one can truthfully say that network marketing [is] “the safest place to be” in this “new” economy. But it sure is a more appealing alternative than trying to find a job nowadays.

And finding anything online to do from home (that’s legitimate, of course) is certainly a way to go.

In either case, there’s a learning curve that people will have to overcome. If they can press through that, then it will be worth it.

In my opinion, today’s economy is forcing people to figure out what they can contribute, or produce on their own. Then it comes down to determining how much they are willing to accept in terms of payment for that contribution or whatever they produce.

  • A strong customer base in any home based business will keep you going strong! Offer superior customer service along with a consumable product and you’ll enjoy steady income for years to come! NWM is definitely more secure than any job. Who do YOU know that has gone from job to job to job being let go/laidoff at EACH new one they find? How frustrating do you really believe that is? How disheartening to spouses and kids is that kind of life? Is it any wonder why J.O.B stands for: Journey Of The BROKE? (LOL)

  • I believe network marketing makes a lot of sense as a truly free-market alternative to working for some faceless, heartless corporation IF the products you’e selling are competitively priced items that are in demand and of superior quality. Many MLM companies don’t fit the bill due to overpriced merchandise that leave you wondering if you got the advertised results.

  • The strong customer base still needs an income to buy products. If Mr. and ms Smith are about to lose their home to forclosure they will probably cancel the autoship. As Paul Kemp noted, the product has to be compatible in price.

I have just canceled my own auto-ship with an MLM whose core product I have enjoyed for years. I found excellent versions of it for much cheaper at other places.
Both locally in health food stores and online.

Besides, MLM companies can make changes to the compensation plan that half your income overnight.

  • “What should we say in the opp meetings instead, then?”

What we need to say is something like this:

“I can help you learn how to earn a part-time income by devoting a few focused hours each week. The more time you devote to it, the more you will make. Once you’ve learned how to make a part-time income, you can optionally earn quite a bit more by teaching others how to make a part-time income just like you’re doing. You get to decide how much you want to earn.”

If someone asks how much they can make, you can be honest by saying:

“Some people never make an effort to learn how to do this and put that knowledge into practice. They make nothing. Others learn the basics and earn a reasonable part-time income for the time they put in. A few will learn and apply some additional skills so that they can earn a full-time income. And a handful of people put their best efforts into our business, and earn substantial incomes. Your income really depends on how much you want to apply yourself.”

People who throw out high numbers are no longer credible. It’s much more difficult (and impressive) to stick to your guns and refuse to discuss actual amounts.
