Our top story today is about a gal who, right on Facebook, threw up on a nice gent who just wanted to say hello.
I marked some of what she wrote him in red – it’s the kind of hype that our industry members are known and ridiculed for. Plus some techno-babble of interest to probably no one but her. (All names except Walter’s have been changed to protect them, and me.:))
He says:
“Hi, My name’s Walter, I’m a network marketer and I’m just looking to meet up with other networkers on Facebook. Not looking to pitch anything, just to connect with someone doing what I’m doing.”
She says:
“Hello Walter!
I do Arhat International. Arhat allows me to have more time for the things that are important to me and to have extra income to help others. It is the easiest and most beneficial home-based business I’ve ever seen!
Arhat’s products sell themselves are are cheaper than Clinique, Lancome, Mary Kay, etc. Arhat is a 27 year Swiss Health & Wellness company.
Arhat’s products are:
• Botanically-based: A proprietary blending of science and nature based on herbal and botanical principles.• pH correct: Skin care pH of 5.5 insures maximum benefit.
• Hypoallergenic: Arhat has really helped my skin look and feel much better!

Did she throw up on him or what? Another way to look at it: Did she strip down and show him everything she had before even getting into his car?
What is with this with network marketers? WHO on earth teaches them to act like this in public? If Kitty (likely a great gal) had any idea how this (probably canned) stuff came across, would she keep doing it?
UPDATE: Donna Johnson, the #1 earner of “Arhat Int’l” posts her two cents in comments today.[/fusion_builder_column][/fusion_builder_row][/fusion_builder_container]

If I were to be given a quarter every time I got a message like this on facebook or myspace I would be a Millionaire and wouldn’t need MLM…LOL
I just discovered your blog and website yesterday. For two years I have been preparing to launch my business upon retirement. I learned all the rules from my uplines (call everone on your 100 names list; it’s a numbers game; anyone can do this; don’t quit; it’s not selling; etc.)
Just as I was starting, I discovered a small, and apparently growing number of people who are redefining the rules of network marketing. People like yourself, Tim Sales, Bob Burg, and Michael Dlouhy have captured my imagination and enthusiasm.
This example of Walter and Kristin hit me so hard when I read it. Yes, Kristin’s approach is how NM has always been, and without the Internet how it probably would always be. The tools we have on the net today allow us to really move ourselves and our industry to a high degree of professionalism. The risk we run (and I have already have begun to experience it from my upline) is another “myth” of our industry – new people should mirror and duplicate their uplines. I found really quickly never to suggest anything new to my uplines. After all, they are the mega-diamond gurus, to be revered and to be followed blindly. After all if they were successful following their model, why shouldn’t I?
Yes, if I did follow their model and did the numbers, I probably would be as successful. But their model celebrates success by “signing” 2-3 out of 100. Along the way, they probably ticked off 60 of the 98 that said “no”. Wouldn’t it be better to sign 10 or 20 or even 30 out of 100, showing the others that we are professionals, not like all the others in the past who were “doing one of those things”?
Kudos to you Ms Stud for being with the leaders in this new era of NM.
I’ve met quite a few people in different companies like this. Look at myspace and other social networking sites.
Lots of people there are even using their company logo or product photo as their display photo. Not even a picture of them anywhere, just a “my company has the best yada yada yada”. Not even a blurb about them.
Then they send you an email “Hey – I liked your profile so I wanted to say hi”. I respond with “Great – what did you like best about it?” and they reply with a pitch about their opportunity and how it’s the best thing since sliced bread. (**Shakes head in disbelief**)
Very sad. Unfortunately, that’s why we, as a group, have a bad name. Just a few bad apples spoil the bunch.

Hi Kim,
I think some of it is probably the excitement of the moment. Could also be inexperience, bad training, or mimicking a weak sponsor.
Take a newbie that crams in all the information their excited little heart can hold: websites, sizzle calls, conference calls, upline 3-ways, printed material, DVD’s, and on and on. All this stuff is compressed inside with no way to escape, because fear has it trapped. Along comes Walter and Kristin needs some relief. She is brave in front of her keypad ….. Blah, blah, blah mega brain dump.
It amuses me that the stereotype of a salesperson is still a ‘fast talker’. Ironically, the best salespeople I have met through the years are fast listeners.
Two ears/ one mouth,
Tom Doiron
Some networkers just make a claim that their product works. Others would use techno-babble to impress the person they’re pitching the sale to since they would figure that the seller knows what they’re talking about.
The people I used to work with insist that anyone who’s overweight or whose skin is looking bad or had achy knees or shoulder is assumed to have a need for the product. In addition, you tell them that all these 12-15 techno-babble included in the product helps make their life better. In addition, they also tell me that they have the best compensation plan, they made the top of their ranking with the company, they say that the product is easy to sell, so you buy $3,000 worth of merchandise and you should be able to sell it off, etcetera, etcetera…no matter whether that gizmo you just picked up will help you make your life better. What a bunch of B.S… they will do anything to make that sale. Whether it’s in being friends, go out on a date, or meet at a bar. It didn’t matter as long as they can use that deception to make the sale. My old upline is one of those people and she still is, using all that hype such as “awesome”, “fantastic”, and “incredibly the most lucrative business you’ll ever been” type. All the factors that KK says that is seller talk is included in their pitch.
When one does this kind of practice, it tells me three things. They’re either in the convincing business, the deceiving business, or both. I’ve ran into all of them that have a combination of both. It doesn’t happen in only network marketing. It happens everywhere whether it’s a brick-and-mortar type or online type. If there’s any convincing or deceiving involved and you’re in the receiving end of it, you’re likely to really (literally) throw up such that you got to tell them that you really have to run to the restroom to get out of it (like what I have to do now while typing this up).

Hi, this is Walter’s wife.
What’s all this about a first date and getting naked outside the car???
All I can say is lucky for Walter she did it on a networking site. I got invited over to a guy’s house last week who has done some printing for me. He lives in Pacific Palisades a very upscale area of town and then I realized why I was there. For a Nikken demonstration that went on for over an hour until someone sitting in the back said – so whats the bottom line here – so far this has been like something on the Discovery Channel.
At that point (and it was 8PM on Saturday night) my husband was chomping at the bit for dinner so we said we didn’t have time to hear any more – they hadn’t even got to the “how you can make money” part except to tell us all you have to do is tell people how wonderful all these environmentally correct products were and we would have checks for thousands of dollars arriving in our mail box in a few days – I said well thats nice as some people cannot sell a jar of vitamins – sad but true – talk about a captive audience.
I tried to explain to the hostess as politely as I could that network marketing is not done much in this type of setting but it was more on line marketing and networking – she didn’t really understand but will soon I am sure. C’est la vie – See how lucky you were Walter – all you had to do was hit the delete key – no gas, no polite smiling. Juliette Gray http://www.itvsuccessline.com
ARGGG. I have had to limit my “my space” to my family and closest friends (and I have to approve even them). I have resigned from all other social networking sites except NMC and I-Gaggle because I just can’t stand to be tormented any more by people like Kitty.
Thank you Kim for NMC and I-Gaggle. It is the safest social site I have ever been on.
Funny…just earlier this afternoon I had a friend (one who KNOWS I’m involved with network marketing and respects me anyway. LOL) send me an instant message saying, “Ugh, I’ve just been mlm’d…it’s worse than being slimed!”
She had posted her interest in discussing a specific book with others interested in this book, shared her phone number and someone took that as an invitation to ‘throw up’ on her about their nwm opportunity. 🙁
Dang…I think evolution is too slow — I think ‘New School’ needs a REVOLUTION!

Arhat and Kim Klaver fan who just now posted – 6:55Pm CT: I JUST deleted your message by mistake – You asked if the post could have been less obvious as to who it was. PLEASE resubmit! I want people to see it and I’d like to reply to it!
Hi Friends,
Hey, Dottiedee here.
You know I agree.
I am so sick and tired of being “Thrown-upon”!!
When asked “what do you do”?
I say, “I am well known.”
Have you ever “Googled Dottiedee?”
Well, I am not the horse, not the Agnor, but you will find me there!!
If not go for Dottiedee.com, dottiedee.org or even dottiedee.net
See if you would like keeping up with me!!
Enjoy you day,
Great meeting you and may we meet again.
P.S. Have you Googled Dottiedee and clicked on “I’m Feeling Lucky”?
Kitty was likely approached like this by her sponsor and upline. She doesn’t know that everyone else doesn’t care about her thing like she does. Haven’t most of us been there in the early days? It’s all she knows so maybe Walter can offer some New School info. If she’s looking for a new way she will be thankful for him showing the interest in helping her. This is how I’ve deal with these messages. Some aren’t ready to hear about New School so I don’t try therapy.
I have gotten so tired of people like this I had to get off some sites, a few within days of joining.
It makes me appreciate NMC and Kim so much more.

Kim, anonymous’s comment is on the results page. It’s still there but I can’t copy and paste it to this message.
This poor lady just doesn’t know any better. it is what she’s been taught and she probably doesn’t realize what she’s doing.
The technobabble is her being excited about what she perceives is unique about her product over Clinque, Lancomb, etc.

I’ve been in this biz since 1982…. been through Old School, New School… and now must check out this Nu Nu School Network Marketing.
Nu nu is Nude… as in strip nude outside of someone’s car.
Or place of business. Or invite them to a secret meeting (disguised as a dinner invitation) and then surprise ’em.
Don’t worry, Walter’s wife — it is for a good cause… just raising money to pay the rent….
Do you think this nu nu school network marketing will only work for skin care products – as in “Wow! Look how beautiful I am… see how my skin glows…. etc. etc. urp urp….”
How duplicatable is it?
I look forward to hearing actual field results from big producers as well as industry newbies.

I have attempted three or four times in the past to leave a comment, but always something went wrong – couldn’t remember passcode or whatever.
Tonight, I am writing yet another comment. And I haven’t a clue as to whether it will actually get posted.
But I guess it makes me feel better in the writing.
First, I want to say, the throwing up part is real. I have seen it done by my mentors, I have done it myself (hopefully to a lesser extent, but still inexcusable) and the responses were warranted. I especially liked Chuck’s resonse. I wish I had written it. As for Pat’s, I have yet to deciper that one – am still working on it. Seems to be a dyslexic form of AADD – Maybe ADAD or DDAA –
Everyone is right. There are no safe sites. It seems that network marketers in general are a lot like flies on poop, except for here.
Thanks, Kim.
My first thoughts on reading her response is that this is something she copies and pastes into every email she uses to respond to someone who contacts her.
Hi Kim,
Thanks for asking me to comment on Kitty’s post.
I am not offended that the company was obvious. I know that every company has ‘pukey’s’….it’s our job as leaders to continue to teach and train the New School method.
Usually, the Kitty’s of our industry find out the hard way that people are not attracted to this.
Thanks for continuing to teach the right thing, in the right way, for the right reason. Congratulations again on your online article!

Hi Kim,
That’s nothing.
I know a particular forum where not only will people “throw up” on you by replying to your post, they’ll send you private messages, send you emails, and go to white pages and look up your phone number and call you… Even if all you did was ask a simple question about our company!
Can you believe that?
What do they think they are going to achieve by doing that?
We’re getting people joining our team just because they don’t want to be associated with the people that “throw up” all over the place. Little do they realize but the “pukers” are actually chasing people away.
– Ben Fitts
Ben – what’s the forum? There are a number of them…
The fact is – There are “Kittys” in ALL of our companies. So no one should take offense thinking their company is being called out. That’s why the New School is so important. It is going to take some time to bring in the new guard. Together we stand, divided we fall. Let’s not attack each other.
Kitty is a child in networking marketing. It is not her fault that the person who sponsor told her to follow the same wheel as hers/his
She doesn’t know better just like when I started 15 years ago.
I threw up all over my brothers, sister, mom and dad.
Thank God, they still love me.
