Three things to become A-list…

pityme

Fun and hard-hitting diatribe on what it takes to become an “A-list” (=top-ranked, top-read, highly-influential and successful) blogger – or top banana networker.

This is a blog, I am a blogger, and I do dream of becoming part of that imaginary A-list Jason talks about. Here goes…

“Some people are still crying about there being an A-list holding them back from blogger fame and fortune.

“Please.

“Blogging is the most open medium ever created. Anyone can join the discussion, post comments, and get in the link pool. All you have to do is:

a) show up
b) have something intelligent to say
c) join the discussion and contribute something meaningful.

“Now, if you have nothing to contribute, you suck as a writer, and you don’t want to show up every day for a couple of years to establish yourself, well, I can’t help you.

“Just look at the “A-list” for a moment:…” MORE HERE
(He lists all former nobodies who are now up there… fun fun fun…)

  • Kudos to Jason for having the guts to tell it like it is.

Check your victim attitude at the door, ’cause it ain’t allowed in here.

Want results? Are you willing to pay the price? The price of hard work. The price of consistency. The price of learning how do to something to the absolute best of your ability. The price of service to others. The price of time. To be an A-Lister about anything, one must be willing to pay the prices, all the prices…even in the world of Blogging.

  • A nice dose of reality. Success no matter the endeavor always entails a price.

I still remember the founder of the first company I was with saying things like (not exact quotes but close):

“Not everybody is going to buy from you – in fact most people won’t buy from you.” Ouch!

“Not everybody is going to join up with you, in fact most people won’t join up with you.” Ouch

“Most of you won’t make it. You will get tired, burned out, and quit because this business is so dadgum tough and most of you are not willing to pay the price. But some of you will and to them will go the spoils.” Ouch!

“Before you become great you gotta be good. And before you get good you gotta be bad. And before you get bad you gotta do something!” Ouch!

“Don’t kid yourself, this is a cruel business come 1099 time.” Double ouch!

Imagine recruiting people with such messages? But we did, lots of them. And because the bar was reality, not hype, we found some great people in the process. In fact the founder/CEO of the company I am with now was the leader of the decade w/the other company during his field building era 20 years ago, and whose commissions in today’s dollars with today’s products would equate to over $2,000,000 a *month*.

  • Blogging your way to an online presence

According to blogger, I have been one of theirs since February 2005. Actually I started one a while before that but did nothing with it – and forgot my sign in info which Blogger could not retrieve. So I stared again and still did nothing much for a while. My first post was April 2005 and in that year I posted only 44 posts, then 78 in 2006 but already in 2007 I have 34 – and that’s only one of my blogs…

I now have many blogs – and admittedly I do not post daily or even weekly on all of them but – in the last year, my two favorite blogs have been cited elsewhere and although I get few posted comments from readers I do get email from around the world and requests for info on my business and products.

Not only is blogging fun, it has gotten me pages and pages in google [see Lynn Dorman or Lynn Dorman Ph.D.] and those have gotten me yet more readers, more listings, several customers and – a few long lost pals have re-found me.

My blogs serve several purposes – a few are there to get me in writing mode – as I am striving to author two books by summer. And those books in turn will create other streams of income.

Other blogs are to brand myself as an expert in certain areas and still others are more for fun.

BUT – you never know who will put in what keyword in google and find YOU. And that’s the long-term benefit of blogging.

Is it work? You bet it is. Is it worth it? You bet it is!

My advice – start a blog today! And then work at it…..

  • Thanks so much for both the kick in the butt and the inspiration.
I am amazed at how many visitors
my yahoo 360 page receives. I got stuck at Blogger because I couldn’t figure out how to upload
a picture there, but you are inspiring me to get myself in gear
and start going again. It sure beats calling so-called leads!

I have a pile of half-finished writings under the heading “blog fodder”. Time to get serious!

  • 3-8 hrs a day?

I could do that, sure. I could buy some of those huge bags of snacks from Wal-Mart and dump the contents in some candy dishes, close the blinds, put my cell in another room, and just type my way to “A” list fame.

My wife could just slip my meals through a little door at the bottom of my cel….uhhmm….office.

All this would take is a little planning. 24 hrs in a day, -.5hrs workout, -1hr to prep for work, -10.5hrs for work and commute, -3hrs blog time, -8hrs rest/sleep ….leaves 1hr for my networking business. I guess I could just get less sleep and squeeze a conference call in there. I could use the snacks for meals and prospect exclusively at Wal-Mart in the candy isle.

Well, I think you get the idea of what I’m saying. 3 hours is a big chunk of time even to someone who is networking full-time and doesn’t have a J-O-B, isn’t it?
